The Reyes Family
This family’s #RedBowMagic story stretched not only their marriage but also stretched their possibilities for the future. Their house, which had previously been on the market, hadn’t sold, but then they reached out to me to help them. With some strategic marketing and timing, we were able to sell their home in a down market for a great price. Not only that, but they were able to stay in their home stress-free while they bought a bigger, better, brand-new home!
“We were believing in a home that answered the vision God laid in our hearts. He was the one that opened up the vision to dream for more and seek out a home that was bigger than what we thought we deserved. We were comfortable where we were, and the home fit our current circumstances. But God said he wanted more for us and he wanted to stretch us. We are very risk averse, so this was very uncomfortable, especially when we really laid out what type of home we were looking for: One that had the space for our family (including our parents and growing boys); one that was in a good school district where we wouldn’t eventually have to pay for school; one that was positioned with space for us to open up our home for kingdom purposes and host our community and people we love; and, of course, having all of those qualities without it being a financial burden.
We had to sell our home to get the house that was set out for us — that was the first big hurdle. Competing with the market, other selling neighbors, and having to realign our selling expectations was staring us in the face. But Tamika was always there laying and reframing our perspective, keeping us goal oriented, and reminding us to keep our prayer muscles strong. But the real impossible (read: sinking) factor was the finances — flat out! To get the home of God’s vision for us, we would’ve had to substantially increase our mortgage! On paper, we had to enter a season where we would need to live paycheck to paycheck, not saving anything. At times, we were mad and confused as to why God would put a vision in our hearts that was unattainable and downright ‘irresponsible.’
It came after our conversation with Tamika where we asked her to talk us through how to look at our finances from a kingdom mindset versus a responsibility mindset. We committed to getting creative, creating different lifestyle agreements, and sacrificing some things. God did his part through a collection of identified pockets that we didn’t know were there, like decreased interest rates, no closing costs, and — the biggest of all — finding out that we actually owed way less than we anticipated on the loan of the house we were selling. Combined, we were able to make the budget work, where we could comfortably afford the monthly payment on the home, not have to pull the kids out of their current school, and still have some money to put away and save monthly.”

When we first started our homebuying search, we believed that God was making a way for us to be able to purchase a house in the Bay Area, even though prices seemed unattainable. We were very unsure that we would be able to afford a house here. To add to that, we weren’t sure where...
